Eat raw, organic food. Eat fermented foods and take probiotics. Get the beneficial bacteria necessary for a healthy immune system and a healthy gut flora by enjoying fermented foods, especially for pregnant women and nursing mothers. Yogurt is vital in improving gut flora. Unfortunately, commercial yogurt found on grocers shelves is not the solution, but making your own yogurt at home, using raw organic milk is the best. Kefir is another solution.
One study involved injecting pregnant mice with a virus that resulted in autism -like behavior in the mice pups. It turns out that these pups quickly became disinterested in the other mice. It seemed as though they suffered from the leaky gut syndrome – gut bacteria seeping into the bloodstream and making its way into the brain. Interestingly enough, the risk of autism increases in children born to mothers with a severe infection when pregnant, and causes them to suffer from gastrointestinal problems, as mentioned above, as well as the leaky gut syndrome.
